CORE CONVERSATIONS II

CORE CONVERSATIONS II (3:00 PM - 3:50 PM)

FOR BELIEVERS: MAKING MINDFULNESS IN THE WORKPLACE WORK

  • Discussion Leader: Paige Davis, Soul Sparks

Location: Capital Factory - Johnny Five (1st Floor)

Capacity: 12-15

This session is geared towards those who have at least a basic, introductory understanding of Mindfulness. In this session, we focus on key considerations for creating a workplace mindfulness program. We also go over case studies about individual and corporate benefits. Finally, we share our own experiences and go through our “now what?!” actions.

Note: Believers wanted, but if you’re a skeptic, please join us anyway!

THE ART OF COMMUNITY CULTURE

  • Discussion Leader: Pedro Vidal, Burning Man Project

Location: Omni Hotel - Governors (2nd Floor)

Capacity: 10-12

Consider this: the future of culture is an external community that makes sense from a business perspective. Burning Man is one great example of this dynamic in play, where art is the glue that holds everything together. What are other examples from our lives and careers? In such a future, how do we best serve the network? Ensure its flourishing? How do we manage subcultures within subcultures?

THE COSTS AND BENEFITS OF SPEAKING UP AT WORK

  • Discussion Leader: Ethan Burris, The University of Texas at Austin

Location: Omni Hotel - Justice (2nd Floor)

Capacity: 12-15

Dr. Burris’ most recent research centers on the fact that success not only hinges on key leaders managing current performance but also efficiently learning about problems and possibilities for improvement. Despite best efforts in creating a workplace culture that is encouraging, positive, and adaptive, many employees simply don’t feel safe to express themselves, challenge existing practices, and speak up with ideas for improvements. In this session, we seek to understand why this happens, and discuss what practices we have used to successfully capture and implement employee ideas (and what we’ve tried that has failed, too).

EVERYONE BENEFITS: BEST PRACTICES FROM TEN YEARS AT B LAB

Discussion Leaders:

  • Rick Alexander, B Lab
  • Holly Ensign-Barstow, B Lab

Location: Omni Hotel - Liberty (2nd Floor)

Capacity: 12-15

B Lab and B Corp Certification are all about articulating a societal benefit and staying accountable to it. How does this play out at the Board level? In governance? In this workshop, you’ll learn what B Corp Certification entails, with a particular focus on the innovative “legal technology” that B Lab has created. The tools and techniques presented are things any company can use, no matter your status or future plans.
